Oral Surgery

Ft. Pierce Oral Surgery

Oral surgery can be an important part of maintaining a healthy, comfortable smile. While our practice is rooted in comprehensive general dentistry, we do offer select oral surgery procedures when they are the most appropriate solution for your care. In many cases, this means treatment can be completed right here in our office, without the need for additional appointments elsewhere.

When Might Oral Surgery Be Needed?

Oral surgery is sometimes necessary when a dental concern cannot be resolved with routine care alone. This may include teeth that are too damaged to restore, infections that have progressed, or conditions affecting the jawbone or surrounding tissues.

Before recommending surgery, we carefully evaluate your situation and discuss all available options. Our goal is to help you make an informed decision that supports both your comfort and your overall dental health.

Oral Surgery Procedures We Provide

  • While preserving your natural teeth is our priority, there are times when an extraction is the healthiest option. This may be recommended if a tooth is severely damaged, extensively decayed, infected beyond repair, or contributing to pain or crowding.

We approach extractions with care and precision, using thorough numbing techniques to keep you comfortable throughout the procedure. Dr. Rowe will take the time to explain what to expect before, during, and after treatment, so you feel informed every step of the way.

When appropriate, we’ll also talk through tooth replacement options, such as bridges, partial dentures, or other restorative solutions.

  • Simple gingival surgery focuses on treating minor gum-related issues that can affect comfort and long-term oral health. These procedures are typically quick and performed right in our office, often as part of a larger treatment plan.

Gingival surgery may be recommended to remove or reshape excess gum tissue, improve access to a damaged or infected area, or support proper healing after another procedure. In some cases, it’s used to help manage inflammation or gum infections that haven’t fully responded to non-surgical treatment.

Healing and Recovery After Oral Surgery

Healing after oral surgery is a gradual process. Some mild discomfort, swelling, or tenderness is completely normal in the following days. Our goal is to support smooth healing while helping you stay comfortable during recovery.

Most patients are able to return to normal daily activities within a short time, though full healing can take a bit longer depending on the procedure. We’ll provide personalized aftercare instructions and are always available if you have questions or concerns as you heal.

Oral Surgery Recovery Guidelines

For the first few days after your procedure, choose soft, gentle foods that are easy to chew:

  • Yogurt, pudding, mashed potatoes, oatmeal, or soft cereals

  • Smooth soups or broths (lukewarm, not hot)

  • Smoothies (without a straw)

Avoid foods and habits that can disrupt healing, including:

  • Hard, crunchy, or sticky foods like chips, nuts, and candy

  • Spicy or acidic foods that may irritate the surgical area

  • Very hot foods or beverages, especially during the first 24 hours

  • Using straws, cigarettes, or vapes

We also recommend resting and limiting strenuous activity for the first 24 to 48 hours. It may help to use cold compresses as recommended to reduce swelling.
